Orca/efficiency questions

Im thinking of starting to use my second account with another char to make more isk however im curious as what is more efficient. Few questions:
1.Is it beter to mine with 2 hulk chars or have 1 hulk and 1 orca buff char?
2.How big is the orca bonus anyway?
3.How exactly the buffing works? I just have to be undocked anywhere in the system and in the fleet with miner char?
4.Im thankful for any other pointers and tips on the issue.

1) If you're not fleeting with anyone else (corpmates etc), it's better to mine with 2 hulks
2) Fully buffed, around +35% yield
3) Fleet with the Orca pilot, have the Orca parked anywhere in system

I'm taking somebody elses math.... but in general it seems about right....

1 hulk boosted by an orca gives you +35% (thats 135%) of an unboosted hulk....

2 unboosted hulks gives you 200% so if you are boosting a SINGLE hulk, you are mining 65% LESS than just mining with TWO unboosted hulks (assuming of course your Orca pilot CAN fly a Hulk).

2 hulks boosted by an orca bumps you up to about +70% (135%*2 = 270%) which sounds pretty good and all but "the fat one LIES, it does!".... in reality IT SUX. (golem, golem, golem all that damned roid dust dries the throat....)

Now this is the limit of a single TM+ license, so if you dont spring for an extra license... train up another hulk pilot and boost TWO hulks with your orca pilot...

but this DOES require a THIRD Eve license as well. but even boosting for THIS is 30% short of THREE UNBOOSTED hulks (300%)... of course you would have to buy an extra TM license to mine with the 3rd pilot and a PC to run them on... or you can just hulk mine with your orca/booster pilot when you are only "semi-afk" this DOES require some trickery so TM+ doesnt try to grab your "single" pilot.

but..... you know what they say..... no balls no bleu chips!!!! why fly 3, when you can fly 4 JUST as easy? 2 PCs, 2 TM+s 4 miners & a booster (yes FIVE eve accounts)... 2 miners & the booster on one PC 2 miners on the other....

now FOUR hulks boosted by an orca absolutely kicks butt (4*135%= 540%).... HERE is where you really get your pay off for fleet boosting.

and while you are SO flush with cash.... why not go 6.....
with 6 miners you can keep an 10 belt system pretty fairly nicely trimmed!!!! or EIGHT pilots BWAAAA HAAAA HAAAA

I know there IS a squad limit there somewhere.... so dont plunk down TOO much cash....

In my personal experience running TM+ x2, running 4 miners in hulks with max skills and max Orca boost in a system with 18/20 belts, the belts were pretty much depleted in about 17 hours of continous mining. So I now only use 2 miners with Orca boost per system. I found I could manually make a belt in HighSec disappear with 2 Hulks and an Orca in just under 2 hours. But in a HighSec system there are generally other miners also helping deplete the belts, so I was usually turning off my computers when the belts were all gone before I went to bed.

When you deplete all the belts in a system over and over, this would tend to attract a lot of attention. It is best to be more cautious than effecient...

hey roidfarmer....

are you mining a single ore type?

if so, I agree, however mining EVERYTHING with T1s , or having each miner focus on a different roid type with T2s.... (but going with T2s, I burn crystals in less than a day... so... I dont know if that pays) gets you ALL the ore types in a system... granted some ores are inherently worth less per unit (even refined), but... iskies be iskies...

I dont believe you can boost outside your system, so by going with that config (orca+2 miners) you are effectively taking a 30% cut in your max mining... and it would be MORE efficient to just Hulk-up and mine with your Orca Pilot.

Hey Mutt,
I forgot to mention all my miners have the Highwall implant (+5%) which contributes to the mining yield...

I love my Tiny Miner Plus.....

I found for this question...if you have 3 toons...3 miners will be better then 2 miners and an ocra..however once you go that 4th toon...3 miner and a ocra will outmine 4 miners.

with leadership skills and implant 3 hulks + orca is easily better than 4 hulks...

i run double client on 1 pc and boosting hulk and single client on another pc, just make sure the client on the second pc with the hulk is selected when u open tm or it will try to mine with ur orca >:(

oh, and i also run yet another pc with 2 more clients in hulks

my rough calcs for leadership skills and implant and fleet boosts etc give me about +48% yield so orca bonus is approx. 1.5, so over my base hulk yield i have 5 hulks mining with about 1.5x bonus so i have equivalent yield of 7.5 of my regular hulks...

WTB orca hauler companion for TM!!! :)

MMm...can you do this? I thought single TM wouldnt work as it would detect 2 client running? Can you confirm this VG? I have another toon here that i would like to get going but only got the 3 PCs to do it...(dual client on 2 PC and other got orca)....and since everyone voted not to get the multi miner in the short term :(..this could be another option til that happens or i get another cheap ass PC.

Yes, it's really a no-brainer... Just start the EVE account with the hulk miner, then start TM and finally start the second EVE account with the Orca booster. TM will be locked on the first EVE window and will ignore all others. In fact I am using this feature myself when mining in a wormhole.

omg..really, look i'll be getting another key off ya mate lol. I just assumed with the client and such... :o ..oh well.

mm...here's one though?..does that work on 3 clients?...such as open up 2 clients..open TM plus, then open the third for the orca?

Yes of course it works. It's the same concept.

To make sure TM never touches your orca pilot no matter the order you start clients:

Check "Show window identification" in General settings, this is account specific so it wont interfere with your miners accounts.

4 Hulks and an ORCA has been working wonders for me. Park the ORCA at the POS and let them trim a belt. I cut back the mining by 2/3rds to keep under the radar. My 5th Hulk will be up in a few weeks. (3) TM+ license works wonderful since 2007. It is a wonderful sight to watch your fleet warp into a belt at the same time and clear it dry.

BTW: Orca with Mining Boss giving you almost a 24km reach is what really kicks ass for me. I can pick a belt clean from one spot.

Ok, I am actually drooling at the thought of running 4 Hulks with an Orca booster, I may have to invest in another Rig (as long as it's not as expensive as my main AMD Phenom II 6 Core Beast). What bugs me most about the mining is that the +5% Ore Yield Highwall Implant is the same slot as the -5% Ice Time Yeti Implant :(

Although, I guess I could be smart and mine it all in an Ice system and have 2 hulks on ice and 2 more on Ore :)
