I have recently just moved back to mining in high sec space doing just regular 'ol Veldspar. Now I've been hearing a lot recently about this whole refining business and I'm kind of curious. So I hopped into a local station that offers refining and I decided to load up a chunk of Vledspar I have sitting around. (862,820 to be exact.) Refining this at my current level will give me 2,377,145 Tritanium which at the going market price will theoretically give me 5.7 million which is quite a bit more than the 4.2 million from the raw ore, but then when I actually reprocess and try to sell it at the station the Tritanium ends up being something like 20% under the regional average which in turn makes me lose money.

So my question is: Why are people ranting and raving about reprocessing materials because when I'm doing it it seems like a gigantic waste of time. Am I doing something wrong? What exactly is needed to actually make reprocessing worth the time/money? Do I need to haul all of this ore somewhere now? And finally, how can I find the best places to sell this stuff if the station that I'm at is giving me a crappy price?

standings at the station will net you another 5% more refined mins along with the veld reprocessing and refining skills will get you to that perfect refine.

then the next thing to do is not necessarily sell to the buy orders but put it up for sale if you are not hard up for iskies i mean hell i have 200M trit just sitting in my hanger waiting for a reason to sell it

Yes, when refining ore you need zero waste and zero fees. Also you can use the included Warp to Zero - Hauler / Trade Route Runner to transport your refined ore in a trade hub such as Jita where you will get a decent price.

Hmm, alrighty then. I shall have to do some mission running to increase my standings at the station I'm at. I had no idea that could affect the ability to refine ore better.

And I think I'll get some sort of hauler that can get all of my stuff to Jita, that sounds like it could be worth the travel time. Just have to wait for EVE to come back online... :/
