How are you using TM?

Post by CdrDave »

I'm just wondering how other people utilize TM. I figure there is always a chance of losing your account when you bot, and I accept that possibility. However, I like to try to balance the risk with reasonable gains from using TM. I'm curious how often you guys are using TM and whether or not you use it away from the computer. Currently, I won't leave it on 24/7, but will let it run overnight. I know I run the risk of being away from the keyboard, but I'm hoping that since I'm only running for 7-8 hours it isn't TOO risky. So far it has worked well for me, and with (finally) 2 hulks running, and selling at current (lower) buy prices, I make 50-60 mil each night, which lets me focus on what I actually want to do in eve - missions or pvp etc.

Anyone actually let it run much longer than that at a time? Is this too risky?

Thanks for your opinions :D

theres actually quite a bit of verbage here about how to avoid getting noticed... and TM actually moves you around a LOT so you DONT get readily noticed.... if you set up your bookmarks smartly...
1) know your corpies
- it is widely belived that MOST guys who get busted are turned in by their own corp-mates
1a) either stay in NPC corps where NOBODY notices - OR -
1b) create your own corp...

2) dont mine where folks think they OWN the system....
if you find yourself there... move on...

3) dont leave your drones laying all over the dang place... if you are losing them.... shield up... and stop using them... try again later... when your drone skills are better

4) think long and hard about orbiting.... with the 200km option you really dont need it... and I'm struggling to think of anything that looks MORE odd than a hulk stuck on an asteroid for 3 hours...

5) theres a feature request out there to abandon wrecks.... it'd be real nice to see that... that way salvagers wont even bother to ask you if they can loot your wrecks.... because they are blue... and they can... without asking

better learn to use search....

vg has a NASTY flame thrower..... lol

and he aint afraid to use it....

Thanks, that was very helpful. I'll seriouly consider switching to 200k BM's.

I really shouldn't post when I'm tired, I didn't mean to ramble about security so much. My original idea for the post was to just get a glimpse of how other people are enjoying/using TM. I'm sure others are approaching TM a little differently than I am and I'm just curious how so.

Been using TM for a year now and my top tips would be:
1. change systems from time to time, i mine in a few systems all close to one another, mining ice in the same system night after night will raise flags with some people
2. I have my TM on her own account, i do this so if i do get banded then my main with 60mil sp dosent suffer the same fate. this might not be an option for others but this one accounts pays for its self and my other 2 with plex. But it does have its advantage, ive only invested 8mil sp on the TM pilot so im training another toon on the same account, he will be a carrier pilot so in a few years once everything is 5 i can use him or sell him to a player who wants a supercap pilot with all 5's, should bring in a few billion isk.
3. prob my number 1 tip, when you get back to your pc read the local chat that has gone on, if you name is mentioned time to get out of dodge. by reading what has been said you can get clues to who like to gank miners, or even if people have spotted a macro miner in the same system.

TM is a very good program i have only ever once been pointed out in local that i am a macro, and that was because i had the wrong overview and keep warping back and locking an orca, so not TM's fault. I have found that as long as your not selling isk for real money your probably 99% safe from ccp, they are the people that get targeted
