I haven't had it happen but I've been wondering what is going to happen if my ship stops orbiting with the asteroid between it and its next destination. I have noticed that "cherry picking" asteroids has gotten me destroyed a few times due to getting stuck in between asteroids and not being able to complete a warp cycle before my ship was destroyed.
Using the warp to 0 from 250k option and not "cherry picking" sets me up beautifully to escape incase of neutrals or rats in the system/belt. It sets me up with a clear egress.
Which brings me to the question. Would it be better to approach the asteroid at say 5k instead of orbiting to avoid potentially stopping with the asteroid interfering with your escape route?
I also wondered if warping back to the station and then warping to the next site would be safer as well to avoid obstacles that might prevent you from warping. I realize this would double travel times but it could potentially keep you from trying to warp through the asteroid you were mining trying to warp to the next belt.
I imagine some people prefer to orbit due to it making them a harder target to hit. Perhaps a check box for approach instead of orbit and the option to use the stop ship if beams are running option for both scenarios.
The reason these things are important to me is I mine in Nullsec. The rats hit hard and the neutrals come in fast and no one is coming to save me.
I don't run drones due to them taking too long to recall so my escapes are as fast as possible.
-Would approach be a better option or perhaps an option we could choose to use? Do you think it would be beneficial?
-Would an option to warp to dock(not necessarily docking up) then warp to the next belt be beneficial for people in "special" situations? Perhaps an option for that does both of these in one click(approach and warp to dock then new belt).
Every time eve has shut down due to critical shield damage it was due to me not being able to warp due to hitting asteroids. I am at fault for those because I was only mining certain ores and warping into a mess doing so sometimes.

The approach option is not useful since you cannot approach at a given distance, it will always continue until it hits the target at zero and thus getting your ship stuck in the asteroid.
The "Warp directly to the asteroids from bookmarks at 200km away in each belt" option can be further tweaked by selecting a default "Warp distance" like 5km or so (right-click the warp button and select the default warp-to distance) and disabling the orbit option. Then TinyMiner will only mine the asteroids that are within mining range and then warp back to the station and repeat the process.
In null sec you should always tank your ship with racial resist rigs, modules and dead-space shield boosters tailored for the specific type of rats in your region. Then you'll be able to survive much longer.

Re: Warping and orbitting question/suggestion
I have been running active shield fits to live longer. The dreadnaught is enough to make me turn tail any time it sees a rat in the system. The only issue I have had is when I was only looking for specific rocks and it would warp me into a cluster of rocks to get to the one that I told it to look for and I'd occasionally get stuck in the warp out process. The low shield option has saved me more times then not because of this. Since then, I have adjusted how I mine and I mine the closest rock to me and I don't cherry pick anymore. I haven't had that issue since.
