Would it be better to make local chat span from the top to the bottom of the screen and put it all the way to the right? Then you could put the overview and target window over the chat portion of the local channel and leave just the local players visible and resized to the narrowest width.
Pros
It will be out of the middle of the screen.
You will be able to monitor more players in local by expanding it from top to bottom
Minimal changes to current setup
You can use the edge of the local players as a base for where to put the overview and target box for minimal confusion

Re: Suggestion - Move Local chat
I think you have a really interesting idea. I often find myself wishing that I could view my ship to see if there is someone else hiding around me. this may or may not include someone attempting to bump me, though this would also be able to be seen through the velocity change. One reason or argument why this change may not be worth the adaptation in the code, would be at the majority people who use TM might be completely AFK. Thus having local dead center really doesn't matter for them. Food for thought.
Re: Suggestion - Move Local chat
I agree. The reason I would like to see the local channel span from the top of the screen to the bottom is as of now it only can detect however many players can be viewed in the local channel. As of now it can only monitor up to around 20 players in the system (which is a lot). I suggested putting it on the right because most people completely afk mine so u could hide the chat portion and leave the player list up. It makes it so around 40 players would be viewable in local at a time. That is the main reason for the move. More local monitoring real estate.
