Enhancement Request - Jet Can Mining Option (DONE)

Post by rstark »

I know the Jet Can Mining Option enhancement has been brought up in the past and I honestly didn't think it was a good idea before but with the advent of the Orca Jet Can Mining is now a great way to increase your mining yield.

I have 2 miners and another PVP character. It would be nice to have Tiny Miner do its mining and instead of going back to the station (if that option is selected of course) just drop a can. I would then have my third character in an Orca (which can fly in hi security space) tractor the ore into the ship.

Of course, Tiny Miner would not care that there was another person actually tractoring ore in. The macro would simply jettison the ore and start the mining process all over again and skip flying back and forth to the station.

The Orca can hold a ton of ore and not going back and forth to the station saves me at least 3 to 4 minutes which could be used for mining ore.

I think this would be an excellent enhancement to the Tiny Miner and Tiny Miner Plus software.

Why aim with TM for Orca as only a lucky few will fly it.

Why not aim for jetcan + bm + hauler

If I could at multiple bookmarks to my hauler using TM+ then I could use my other TM account to do the same.

TM miner + TMplus miner/hauler, that would be awesome.

PS: it's muuuuuuch cheaper to train for a Bustard.. think you can haul 40K m3 with it orso.

The Jettison option has already been implemented in version v3.2 along with other options. Basically after each mining run instead of docking to the station to unload, TinyMiner will just jettison the ore into space and carry on mining. This also applies to TinyMinerPlus so if you're looking to pickup the cans left behind then this new Orca sounds like the better idea.

Aiming for the Orca

Post by rstark »

The Jet Can option will not just work for the Orca. You can pick up your cans in anything you want.

Why the Orca? It's pretty simple. It's like a capital ship that can fly in hi security space.

It's cargohold space can go up to 90,000m3. With a corp hangar that will store an additional 40,000m3. So that's 120,000m3.

It has a 70km tractor beam range. With 100% to tractor beam velocity (1km sec). Also it can fit gang mods so you can even boost your miners. Although I don't think Tiny Miner Plus will accommodate this.

The skills to use the Orca are not that difficult to attain.

But hey, if you want to use an industrial ship, more power to you.

TM+ works just fine with miners in a fleet with bonuses, you just have to do some math to figure your cycle times. Orca FTW.

Orca is just epeen.

It aint a hauler, to bloody expensive. Buy a bustard, fit/train it to the max, add T2 rigs, and you can do 40.000m3 orso for far far faaar less then the cost of an Orca

It aint a commandship used for boosting because every time it docks the boost will be gone

It aint a miner as you can max T2 miners

Orca is just useless epeen.

Bustard vs Orca

Post by rstark »

When i ran the numbers on Bustard the only way to get it to 40k cargo is to buy 3 T2 Cargohold Optimization Rigs. In addition you must put 5 Expanded Cargohold II's in your low slots.

Those rigs go for about 250 million each. Who is going to spend 750 million in rigs for a Transport ship?

Thats over an 800 million investment on a ship that can be insta-popped by a battleship.

The Orca with just Tech I cargohold optimization rigs can hold up to 94,500. Which means a total investment of around 860 million. It won't be insta-popped by a battleship because it has a lot more shield (10750) and armor (6900).

Not to mention all the other benefits of the Orca (tractor beam range & velocity, 500% bonus to survey scanner range, can use Gang Link modules.

So, Lagmonster, would you rather pay 800 million for that Bustard or 850 million for an Orca?

Thanks rstark, that's useful feedback.

I am taking the Orca in reconsidering also because for me the Bustard is e sidepath in training where the Orca is al ready at level 3 going for 4 :)

Just gotta wait till the price drops or gather the components as I made a great deal with some dumbo who bought the Orca BPO but then realised he will never be able to research it the way I can.

In exchange for BPC's (3!) I will research and reserve one slot for 3 months for him :D

Also with the Orca I will be able to move easier to a great new minespot.

account 1: 1 hulk + 1 mack/hulk both in Orca
account 2: 1 commandship for boosting
account 3: optional Hulk already in Orca, so i have the choice to do missions or mine.
